Listen to Obituary

Anne L Burnham, 81, of Parishville, NY died September 24 at United Helpers Home in Canton NY where she had been a resident for the past year.
She was born on May 4, 1944 in Boston, MA,daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Quiri) Burnham. She attended colleges in Massachusetts and California and moved to the North Country in 1975.

Anne Burnham had a big personality with her own distinctive style. She was a force of nature, which some might see as an understatement. She knew so many people, and once you met her, she considered you a friend for life. People had such different images and tales of Anne, and they were all amazing. When she was in town you would always see her with her dog; Francesca, then Lily, Freddie, and last but not least Bare Bare (she also had cats).
First and foremost, Anne was a potter, and she practiced this art for more than 50 years. She brought her style into everything in her life, whether it was gardening, cooking, photography, fashion, tax preparation, house-cleaning, blackfly abatement, even assessing properties - her art was there. Her flair flowed through everything she did. Anne was a huge part of the arts in the North Country. She took part in the Artist Open Studio tours, juried shows, the Arts Council, TAUNY, the yearly Potsdam Ives Park craft fair and more. Anne was also a Buddhist; involved in meditation, Tai Chi, and yoga. Anne loved flowers of all kinds. She always had wild flowers in her home, and her gardens were unique. She enjoyed cross-country skiing and hiking, she was a Adirondack 46er.
She will be missed by all who had the remarkable opportunity to have interacted in her world. Planting flowers for her would be a fitting way to remember her. If you wish to do more, donations could be given to St Lawrence Hospice or any charity of your choice. Her ashes will be spread at Dai Bosatsu Zendo and there will be a gathering celebrating her in the spring.

Anne is survived by her son, Michael Cromarty and two grandsons as well as two nieces and her friend and care-giver Linda Myers.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where memories and condolences can be shared at www.hammillfh.com.
