It is with profound sadness that the family of Betsy Ann McGreevy announces her peaceful passing on June 3, 2024, at Treasure Coast Hospice in Ft. Pierce, Florida. She was born on August 28, 1938, in Massena, NY to Dr. Philip T. and Mrs. Ella Sullivan McGreevy of 19 Bridges Avenue. Betsy graduated from Massena Public High School in 1956 and did a post-graduate year of study at St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The following Fall, she attended a three-year, intensive Nurses Training program in Syracuse, NY. She has been close with classmates Marlyn Flynn of Las Vegas and Mindy Gigacz of Syracuse since school days and regularly attended the reunions.
Betsy lived and worked in various nursing fields in Boston from 1960 to 1994. She particularly enjoyed her time in Cardiac Unit and Phillips House 8 at Mass General Hospital, and also enjoyed “private duty” nursing, which gave her Summer’s off so that she could return to her beloved farm in Brasher Falls, NY. While at the farm, she enjoyed spending time with her mother and brother Pat and his family. Betsy trained and raised 7 beautiful horses, planted a very large garden, was a lifelong, world-class knitter and enjoyed buying and refinishing antiques. Initially moving to Boston with Ellen Carroll (also of Bridges Avenue), Betsy easily made friends, many of whom she was close to until her dying day (Suzanne Newton, Ann Cull, Nancy Lane, Sondra Allen).
In 1994 Betsy was married to William Scott and moved to Bourne, Massachusetts. Later that year, the couple would move to Port St. Lucie, FL where they bought a house in which they enjoyed socializing with friends and relatives including very close neighbors Arthur St. Andre, Nancy Morris, Colette St. Andre, Lloyd Page, Jackie Parrett, Judy Dailey and Carol Silvia.
Betsy was not blessed by children of her own. Betsy is predeceased by her beloved husband William Scott, her parents, her brothers J. Patrick and Philip, her nephew Daniel and all her cousins, including Dr. James T. Sullivan of Potsdam. Betsy is survived by nephews Timothy, Matthew, P. Tyler and Darrin, niece Thyra, sisters-in-law Sandra and Cynthia, grand-nieces Margot, Allie and Molly and grand-nephews Daniel and Philip. Betsy was a large part of the family’s daily lives and will be dearly missed. There will be a memorial service on July 27 at 11:00 am at the Northside Community Church, 41 North Main Street, Massena, NY. A small reception for close friends and family directly after the service is hosted by the church. Donations can be made in her name to the Northside Community Church.
