Our community mourns the passing of Bruce S. Williams, who left us on December 10, 2025, just five days after his 93rd birthday. Born on December 5, 1932, in Ogdensburg, NY, he is the son of the late Suver and Eva (Dignean) Williams. Bruce attended and graduated from St. Lawrence Central School, where he met his soul mate, Bette Jayne Ploof and they graduated together in 1950. They married on February 10, 1951, and filled his years with laughter, love, and a remarkable zest for life. After a 73-year union, Bette passed on September 17, 2024.
Bruce was a devoted father to his six children: Rick, Mark, Craig, Shelly, Chris and Scott. After a fulfilling career as a Senior Control Operator at the NYS Power Authority, Bruce was able to spend time on his beloved hobby farm. With his beloved wife by his side, they cultivated a 15-acre garden that flourished under their care-a true testament to the life they built together. He greatly enjoyed gardening, spending weekends snowmobiling, hunting, camping, bowling, and, of course, watching sports.
Bruce lived life on his own terms, embracing every moment with an infectious enthusiasm. His ability to find joy in simple pleasures, combined with his genuine love for his family, ensured that he was never short of wonderful memories to cherish.
He is survived by his children Rick and Kathi Williams, Mark Williams, Craig and Dawn Williams, Shelly and Steve Fonte and Chris Williams, two brothers, Keith and Betty Williams and Bob and Rosalee Williams, 10 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bruce was predeceased by his wife, Bette, a son, Scott Williams in 2018, two brothers, Ronald and Lawrence and a sister, Ruth Lucas.
Graveside services celebrating Bruce's remarkable life will be held at a later date, at Hillcrest Cemetery Road in North Lawrence, NY, where his legacy of love and laughter will be remembered by all who knew him. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where memories can be shared at www.hammillfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests the Lupus Foundation of America or the Alzheimer's Association.
