We are saddened to announce the passing of Charles D. Gillingham, who left us peacefully at the age of 83 in Saint Regis Falls, New York. Born in Warrensburg, NY, on March 7, 1942, Charles is the son of the late John and Ruth (Hocomb) Gillingham. At a young age, he entered the U. S. Navy and served four years at a boiler tender. After his discharge, he he worked at the GE Foundry for 17 years, than at Concord Steam in NH for 11 years and retired in 2004, as a Steam Plant Operator at Potsdam Specialty Paper, after 12 years, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and determination. Beyond the job, he was a man of the outdoors, finding joy in hiking, hunting, and fishing. Often, you'd find him camping, enjoying nature's beauty and reveling in the peace it brought him.

A craftsman at heart, Charles possessed a remarkable knack for woodworking, with many family members and friends cherishing the bowls he made on his lathe-a testament to his creativity and craft. He also found delight in tackling daily jigsaw puzzles on his tablet, always seeking that next challenge.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Thelma (McFaul) Gillingham, who stood by his side through their life's adventures, his children, Charles D. Gillingham, Jr. and his partner, Meagan Johnson, Douglas C. Gillingham and his partner, Lynn Daggett, and Theresa Gillingham, two step daughters, Terry and Daniel Brown, and Trisha Orologio, an adopted daughter, Michelle Temple and her fiance David Brewer, his siblings, Duane Gillingham and his partner, Barbara L., Dale Gillingham and is partner, Gina M., John and Noreen Gillingham, Sue Lackey, Dawn Gillingham andf Penny and Kevin Maxem, a sister-in-law, Joan Gillingham, 10 grandchilen, 6 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Charles was predeceaseed by his brother, Gary, his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sheila, brother-in-law, George Lackey and step-son Dennis Hall.

Following his wishes, his family will honor his life privately at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring or summer. Arrangement are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls, where memories and condolences can be shared at www.hammillfh.com.
