It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David L. Montgomery, who departed this life on October 23, 2025, at Canton Potsdam Hospital. Born on June 27, 1940, in Massena, David is the son of the late Lee and Mae (Gilbo) Montgomery.
After his graduation from St. Lawrence Central School, David proudly served in the United States Air Force from February 17, 1959, to December 10, 1962, achieving the rank of Airman Second Class (A2C, E-3). His dedication to his country was reflective of his character and commitment to hard work. On October 5, 1963, he married Grace E. Ramsdell, who blessed him with two children. They shared a loving union until her passing on September 6, 1978. He married Shirley Ramsdell on September 15, 1979, sharing a blessed union until her passing October 2, 2020. David found his calling at Reynolds Metals, where he contributed tirelessly in the Anode Department, earning the respect of his colleagues.
David's life was busy; playing baseball, traveling with family, working on junk cars (then taking the scrap metal in for recycling and taking his wife out to dinner), puttering in his workshop, mowing and yard work. His grandchildren filled his heart with all their activities together.
David's legacy lives on through his daughter and son in law, Lisa and James Lyon, of Winthrop and his son, David and Sheri Montgomery, Jr, of Florida, grandchildren, Meghann and Scott Cheney, Grace and Joshuah LaShomb, Abigail Lyon and Mario Aguirre, Samuel and Keely Lyon, and Joshua Lyon, six great grandchildren, a sister, Gloria McGuire of Syracuse, a sister in law Ellen Montgomery of Altona, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Michael, James, Carolyn Damon and Patricia Strickland. He was a man of principle, often sharing laughter and kindness with friends and family.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 11:00 am at Victory Baptist Church, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather and celebrate David's life. Following the service, there will be a Graveside Prayers at Union Cemetery in Buckton at 12:15 pm, where he will be laid to rest in a peaceful setting that reflects his gentle nature.
