Winthrop - Dennis R. Burnett, 83, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at his home in Winthrop, under the loving care of his family and Hospice. Friends may call at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 23rd at 2 pm at St. Patrick Cemetery in Brasher Falls.
Dennis Burnett was born on February 13, 1941 in North Lawrence, to the late James and Esther (Wells) Burnett. After high school, he entered the US Army from 1958 to 1961. He worked various jobs throughout his life, including: a NFO milk inspector and driver, working as a concrete mason with his brother Dick and nephew Rick-who both held a very special place in his heart. At one time he was a truck driver for Armellini Trucking in Stuart, Florida with his brother-in-law, Jack, and then came back to the North Country to continue farming.
He truly loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, spearing, working in his garden, and cutting wood. He enjoyed dancing, playing pranks and playing cards with an expertise in deception.
Dennis married Ellen Walker Miller on September 24, 2022 at his beloved cabin. He is survived by his wife Ellen, and his loving children he was blessed with from his first marriage to Sandra Greenwood that ended in divorce: Becky and Tim Ramsdell, of South Colton, Kimberly Kerberg and Andy McLaughlin, of North Lawrence, Denise Bonville and Michael Guyette, of CO, Amy and Mike Bolia, of Winthrop, Charlie and Laurie Thomas, of Winthrop, his brothers, Arthur and Wanda Burnett of Wolcott, Dale and Irene Burnett of Winthrop and Andy and Ruth Burnett of Potsdam, many grandchildren; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Dexter Thomas Burnett and Cassie L. Burnett, two great granddaughters, Amelia Marie and Savannah Lorraine, two sisters and their husbands, Jean and Jack Edwards, and Eleanor and Tommy Davis, four brothers, Albert, Paul, David, Richard and his wife Lorraine.
If you knew him, you would know he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
