Eli Sochia

Eli R. Sochia, 97, of Hopkinton passed away on Friday October 27, 2023, at Canton Potsdam Hospital.

Eli was born in St. Regis Falls to the late Edson and Hattie (Caskinette) Sochia on September 25, 1926.

A marriage to Shirley Stacy blessed him with seven children. He married Barbara M. Berdow on April 27, 1973. They celebrated 39 years of marriage until Barbara passed on December 29, 2012.

He was a member of the United States Army, and a Heavy Equipment Operator for Operating Engineers for many years.

Eli belonged to the East Brook Hunting Club, the Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the Red Tavern Sportsman's Club.

Eli is survived by his children; Gilbert Sochia of Hopkinton, Wayne & Piper Sochia of Hopkinton, Sheila & David Gardner of Dekalb Junction, Kevin Sochia & Cindy of Parishville, and Loren & Maria Sochia of Parishville, his step-children; Rosemary & Webster Brown of Moira, Patricia & Theodore Meyers of Juneau, AK, Sue & Roderick Yaddow of Dickinson Center, Robin & Michael Johnson of St. Regis Falls, and Cynthia & Steven Follett of Massena, and his siblings; Adele Sochia, Timothy Sochia, Mary Witherell and Eldora Tharrett. Also surviving Eli is a legacy of 27 grandchildren, as well as many great grandchildren, and even some great great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sons,Robert and Darcy Sochia, and two grandson's Jordan and Ian, his siblings, Blanche, Elroy, Howard, Laura, Edith, James, Katherine, Grace, Wilfred, Elsie, Gilbert and Anna.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 9th from 11 am to 1 pm at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. His funeral service will be at 1 pm with Rev. Lee Sweeney officiating.
