EllaJane Burnett

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of EllaJane Burnett who left us on February 25, 2026, at UVA Health System in Charlottesville, VA, at the age of 81. She was born on July 9, 1944, in Potsdam, NY, daughter of the late Bernard and Helen (Cheeseman) LaComb. She graduated from St. Lawrence Central School in Brasher Falls and on September 4, 1965, she married Victor R. Burnett at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence. Victor passed away on August 1, 2022, one month shy of their 57th wedding anniversary.

Known by all as one of the kindest souls you could ever meet, she had a gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and loved. Her door-and her heart-were always open. She was a natural storyteller who loved sharing memories and life experiences with family and friends. Whether recalling moments from years past or turning everyday happenings into something memorable, her stories were always delivered with a sparkle in her eye and her unmistakable sense of humor. Laughter followed wherever she went.

EllaJane dedicated 30 years of her life to serving the public as the Deputy Town Clerk for the Town of Lawrence. Her commitment reflected her deep love for her community and the people within it. Those who had the privilege of working alongside her will remember her warmth, reliability, and the genuine kindness she extended to everyone she met. She was a member of the Town Clerks Association, the North Lawrence Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a communicant of St. Lawrence Church and a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the church choir. EllaJane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a cherished member of her community.

EllaJane is survived by her beloved children: daughter Michele (Paul) Cesta, sons Erik (Carrye) Burnett and Steven (Heather) Burnett, and daughter Patricia (Ryan Frost) Burnett. She was also a proud grandmother to her grandchildren: Zachary Burnett, Alex Burnett, Amanda Leroux, Jacob Cesta, Matthew Cesta, and Danielle Allison, and great-grandchildren: Lyndy Burnett and Kasen Burnett, who will carry her memory in their hearts.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate EllaJane's life during a Mass to be held at St. Patrick Church on March 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Prior to this, visitation will take place at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop from 10:30 AM until 12 noon. She will be buried with her husband at St. Patrick Cemetery in Brasher Falls.
