Ernest Bedard

North Lawrence - Ernest G. Bedard, lovingly known as Ernie, peacefully passed away on January 16, 2024, at the age of 83. Ernie was a devoted husband, a beloved father, a cherished grandfather, and brother.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

Following Ernie's wishes there will be no public visitation and his family will honor his life privately.

Ernie was born on February 20, 1940, in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, to the late Napoleon and Rachel (Champagne) Bedard. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central High School in 1958.

On May 5, 1962, Ernie married Barbara Wilson. They settled in Lawrenceville and created a loving home for their family. Together, they shared precious memories and embarked on biannual trips to Pennsylvania, relishing the beauty of new experiences and each other.

For most of his life, Ernie served as a self-employed farmer, toiling tirelessly to provide for his loved ones.

During the construction of the Seaway, Ernie lent his expertise to the housing project, specializing in roofing. He showcased his versatility by serving as the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Lawrence and During his retirement, Ernie drove truck, hauling milk and lumber.

Ernest's zest for life extended far beyond his work. He found joy and recreation in playing hockey and golf, riding motorcycles, and dirt bikes. When the time allowed, Ernie and his family would embark on camping trips to Fish Creek.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara; 2 sons, Brent and Tammy Bedard of Lawrenceville, and Barry and Deborah Bedard of Sanborn; six grandchildren, Kyle and Jessica Bedard, Eric and Missy Bedard, Ryan (Nicole) Bedard, Tyler (Sarah) Bedard, Bryce (Kayla) Bedard, Noah (Cassie) Bedard; 7 great grandchildren, Tyler, Kevin, Kyleigh, Cassie, Breanna, Adalyn, and Cayden.

Survivors also include, one brother Art Bedard and his wife Paulette, three sisters, Muriel Burns, Marguerite (Leroy) Dow, and Aline Hazen.

His brother, Raymond Bedard predeceases Ernie.

Ernest G. Bedard will be fondly remembered for his unwavering dedication and friendship, his infectious sense of humor, and his warm and compassionate spirit. He will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew him, and his memory will continue to impact the lives of those he leaves behind.
