Flora M. Rivers

Massena – Flora M. Rivers, 95, formerly of Cty Rte 49, died Thursday, September 11, 2014 at St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena, where she was a resident for eight years. A prayer service will be held on Tues., September 16, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop with Father Amyott officiating. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Brasher Falls. Flora was born June 21, 1920 in Lawrenceville, a daughter of the late Warren & Florence Burnett Thomas. She was a graduate of Brushton High School. Surviving are her daughter, Shirley Ott of Winthrop; eleven grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Winfred John "Winnie" Rivers (1965); daughter, Geraldine Avery (2012); an infant son, David John Rivers; seven brothers; one sister and her long-time companion, Jack Durgin (2004). Just recently the family had a "six generations" photo taken. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church, Brasher Falls.
