Floyd P. Donnelly

Floyd Donnelly, 81, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Canton Potsdam Hospital. There will be no public visitation, as his family will honor his life privately. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where memories and condolences can be shared at www.hammillfh.com.

Floyd was born on March 19, 1944, on Croils Island, NY, to Samuel and Eleanor Donnelly.

He graduated from Massena Central High School in 1963. He served in the Army Reserves from 1963 to 1969. He started his career as a Diesel Mechanic in the pot rooms at Alcoa for six years. He then worked for Walsh Trucking Company for fourteen years and returned to Alcoa as a mechanic for fourteen years. He also worked part-time for Clark Phippen and Fred Groebler.

He married Carol Palmer on August 6, 1966, at St. Patrick's Church in Louisville. The couple had 3 children, Patrick, Vicki and Rebecca.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol, his son Patrick (Lucia), and daughters Vicki (Ed) and Rebecca Allen (U.S. Marine Corps veteran), his grandchildren, Christina, Kyle, Jacob and Alyssa, his brother Dennis (Diana) and sister, Gladys (Gary) Cross, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Floyd is preceded in death by his father, Samuel Donnelly, his mother, Eleanor Donnelly and his brother, Lyle and his wife, Donna.

Floyd loved time spent with his children and grandchildren.

He enjoyed working on cars and diesel trucks. He enjoyed boating and was an excellent slalom water skier. He taught his children to ski as soon as they were big enough to fit into skis. He looked forward to deer hunting and had many successful years with his son and close friends.

He and Carol traveled many miles on their Harley Davidson motorcycles. They also traveled to Japan, Cancun, Florida and through multiple states between home and Texas.

In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren Floyd leaves behind his brother, sister and their spouses as well as many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
