Galon Eldridge passed away in Florence, AL on June 7, 2023 at the age of 79. The funeral will be held at
St PatrickCatholic Church in Brasher Falls on July 22nd at 10am with burial in St Patrick Cemetery. He
was born on Dec 9, 1943 to Ivan and Eleanor Eldridge in Potsdam, NY. He graduated from Massena
Central High School in 1961 and then worked in Massachusetts for a few years before enlisting in the Air
Force. He served from 1964 to 1968 during the Vietnam War with tours in Vietnam and Thailand and
obtained the rank of Staff Sargent. Upon returning to the United States he started his career at ALCOA in
1968 where he worked until his retirement in 2001, as a General Mechanic. He was also active in Local Essity Internal 420 and served in various officer positions. He married Mary Jane Hunter on Sept 6, 1969. He is survived
by his wife Mary, son Ivan (Kathy) Eldridge, daughter Karen (Rob) Springall, granddaughters Kirsten
Eldridge and Kaylee Eldridge, sisters Rayona Thompson and Marylin O'Brien and numerous brother and
sister in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents, sisters - June
Furnace, Anna Mae Gray, Jane Crump and brothers - Donald, Raymond and Franklin Eldridge.
Galon was a member of St Patrick Catholic Church and Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church in
Tuscumbia, Al where he spent the winter months with his son and family. He was an active member of
the Knights of Columbus Council 2176 in Brasher Falls for years and served as a Grand Knight and District
Deputy. He also was involved in Knights of Columbus Council 6661 in Tuscumbia, AL. He was a Fourth
Degree Knight and a member of Assembly 710 in Massena, the 4th Degree Color Guard and served as
the Master of the 4th Degree. He also served as the C&B Coordinator and Northern Conference Chair.
He was the secretary/treasurer of the ALCOA 25 Year Club for numerous years. He was a member of
NATRA (North Alabama Trail Riders Assoc.) and helped with their annual St Jude Charity event. He was a
member of the American Legion. In his younger years he loved hunting with his family. He loved playing
golf and played in several leagues over the years. He spent his summers playing around the farm on his
favorite toy, his Kubota tractor. He enjoyed watching his favorite sporting teams including the Yankees,
Jets, and Crimson Tide. Most importantly he cherished the time spent with his family and good friends
and particularly enjoyed his granddaughters.
Arrangements are with Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may
be made to the American Cancer Society or Sarcoma Foundation of America.
Mary Eldridge passed away in Muscle Shoals, AL on June 18, 2023 at the age of 74. The funeral will be
held at St Patrick Catholic Church in Brasher Falls on July 22nd at 10 am, with burial in St Patrick Cemetery.
She was born on Nov 13, 1948 to John and Olivia Hunter (Phelps) in Massena, NY. She
graduated from St Lawrence Central High School in 1967 and SUNY Morrisville in 1968 where she obtained her LPN. She worked at Massena Memorial Hospital and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley until her retirement. She married Galon Leo Eldridge on Sept 6, 1969. She is survived by her son Ivan (Kathy) Eldridge, daughter Karen (Rob) Springall, granddaughters Kirsten Eldridge and Kaylee Eldridge, sisters, Marie Plachotnik, Joyce Hunter, Susie (Glenn) Cinnamon, Marcy (John) Hand and brothers Michael
Hunter and Jeff (Danielle) Hunter and several sister in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was proceeded in death by her parents, step father - Maurice Phelps, and husband.
Mary was a member of St Patrick Catholic Church and Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church in
Tuscumbia, Al where she spent the winter months with her son and family. She was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2176 Ladies Auxiliary in Brasher Falls for years and served as president, secretary and treasurer. She also was involved in Knights of Columbus Council 6661 Ladies Auxiliary in Tuscumbia, AL. She loved crafts, sewing, embroidery, crocheting and knitting and taught these skills to others. She spent her summers gardening at home in NY. She loved playing golf and played in several leagues. She enjoyed watching Crimson Tide sports with her son and granddaughters.
Most importantly she cherished the time spent with her family and good friends and particularly enjoyed her granddaughters.
