Gerald D. Wells, Sr., 70, of Hannibal, died Thursday in Syracuse. A native of Potsdam, he resided on Peat Bed Road in Hannibal since 1981. He was the son of the late Edwin E. and Dorothy M. (Jock) Wells.
Gerald attended Potsdam High School. He retired in 2005 after 37 years as an over the road truck driver for various companies including Carl Johnson in Lyndonville, VT . He was an avid hunter and enjoyed four wheeling and motor cycling.
He was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, the former Annie E. (Johnson), in 2001, a son, Michael in 1969, and three brothers, Gordon, Edson, and Edwin Wells.
Gerald is survived by five children: Brenda Capron of Hughesville, PA, Joan (Charles) Sheldon of Hannibal, Tammie (James) Brown of Cato, Gerald (Tammy) Wells Jr. of Hannibal, and Kevin (Michelle) Wells of Hannibal; two brothers: Vincent Wells of Colton, NY, and Royal Wells of Ft. Jackson, NY; thirteen grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Calling hours will also be held at Hammill Funeral Home, 146 County Route 5, St. Regis Falls, NY on Friday, December 9, from 10 am - 12 pm with a funeral service following at Noon. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery, Dickinson Center , NY.
