Gordon S Arnold

Brasher Falls - Mr. Gordon S. Arnold, Sr., 90, formerly of Largo, FL., passed away peacefully in the comfort of his daughter, Sandra's home where he was under the care of hospice on Monday December 29, 2014. Local arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Gordon was born in Braintree, Mass., on April 24, 1924 to the late Edwin and Mary Ethel (Close) Arnold. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from Braintree Highschool. Gordon enlisted to the US Marine Corp in January of 1943; proudly serving his country and participating in action at Guam and Iwo Jima. He was a guard for President Roosevelt and received his stripes on the recommendation of Winston Churchill. Gordon was honorably discharged on December 22, 1945. In February of 1947 Gordon married Agnes Mary Schutt in New Hampshire. The two shared a union of 67 years. For over 40 years Gordon was a machinist for Armstrong Industries in Braintree, the position from which he retired. He was a member of the Planning Board in Holbrook, Mass., for many years, as well as a Little League Coach for the Avon Little League. He enjoyed golf, and watching sports live and on TV in his leisure time. He is survived by his wife, Agnes, son and daughter-in-law, Gordon S. and Lorraine Arnold Jr. of Marshfield, Mass., and daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Wayne Andresen of Brasher Falls, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, a sister, Esther Crosby of Wrentham Mass., and 2 sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Stevens of Harwich Mass., and Patricia Arnold of Marshfield, Mass. He was predeceased by his brothers: Franklin, Richard and Robert Arnold, his sisters: Helen McGrath and Priscilla Lavangie. In keeping with Gordon's wishes, services will be held at a later date at the convenience of his family. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions in Gordon's honor may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
