Listen to Obituary

Gregory "Greg" Lee Snider, 70, was born September 24, 1955, in Massena, New York, and died May 11, 2026, in Brasher Falls, New York.

Greg was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. He was a man of unwavering integrity, generosity, and humor. He was a good man, brilliantly intelligent, competitive, and endlessly capable. Greg devoted his life to helping others, which gave him joy and purpose. You could call him anytime, from anywhere, and he would show up.

Known affectionately as "Gizmo," Greg earned the nickname through his remarkable ability to fix anything. In his mind, there was the "by-the-book" way to solve a problem, and then there was Greg's practical way of doing things. If Greg ever improvised a quick repair for you, you were "gizmoed," and it usually worked better than expected. Greg worked as a journeyman electrician at the New York Power Authority for 27 years. In retirement, he stayed in constant motion driving all over the North Country to fix, move, and repair things for others.

He found joy in the simple rhythms of life: waking up before sunrise to beat his older brothers in The New York Times Mini Crossword and other daily games and puzzles, fishing in the St. Regis from his own backyard, and "gaining" on projects around the house. He loved playing pickleball with anyone willing to pick up a paddle. A lifetime member of the St. Lawrence Valley Table Tennis Club, Greg was known for his wicked serve and his ability to return your best shot. Over the years, he also enjoyed running marathons, bicycling, traveling, and spending time shoulder to shoulder with others, working, helping, and taking the time to build things together.

He especially treasured spending time with his family and friends, and being "Grandpa Greg." He loved bonfires, being outdoors, playing board games and card games, and surprising those he loved with thoughtful acts of service. Greg had a quiet but unmistakable way of showing his love.

Greg was preceded in death by his father, Mark Snider.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Snider; his mother, Betty Snider; his brothers, Mark Snider of Chazy Landing, New York, and his wife Corrine; Tom Snider of Waddington, New York, and his wife, Christy; and Brian Snider of Massena, New York, and his partner, Patti Rockhill; and his three children: Greg J. Snider of Medford, Oregon, and his wife, Connie; Andy Snider of Syracuse, New York, and his wife, Jess Kempisty; and Amy Snider of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and her husband, Craig Janney. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Iris Snider, Doug Snider, and Tinsley Janney.

His life was defined by the countless ways he showed up for others with his labor, laughter, and kindness. Greg faced his own physical and emotional challenges following complications from cancer treatment. Greg was deeply loved and he will be sorely missed.

The family will celebrate his life privately.
