St. Regis Falls - Helen Marie Cascanette, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at the age of 100, surrounded by her loving family.
Helen was born in Massena, NY, on November 29, 1925, daughter of the late Willard Giles and Beulah Grace (Hicks) Cheney. After graduating from high school and Central City Business Institute, she married Bernard Joseph Cascanette, who predeceased her on June 28, 1999. She devoted her life to her family and spent 35 years serving her community as Postmaster of the St. Regis Falls Post Office. She also enjoyed serving as treasurer of the St. Regis Falls Adult Center for many years.
She is survived by her daughter Irene Cox and her fiancé Larry White and granddog Addie Rose, daughter Donna Riley and son-in-law Chris Riley, her son Paul Cascanette and daughter-in-law Lisa Cascanette. Her legacy lives on in her cherished grandchildren: Heather (Dan) Rondeau, Laura (Richard) Chapman, Jared Cascanette, Grace Riley, and Emma Riley; her great grandchildren, Daniel Rondeau, Brittany Rondeau, Kerrigan (Claire) Rondeau, Caydence Rondeau, Noah Rondeau, Luke Chapman, Anna Chapman and Cole Chapman; and her great-great grandchildren, Bryce and Raelyn Threlkeld. Each of them carries a piece of Helen's love and kindness in their hearts.
Helen was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Bernard; her sisters, Norma Cheney and Evelyn Goodrow; her grandson, Adam Cox; and her granddaughter, Sierra Riley, with whom she shared many cherished memories.
Helen was always there to support and care for her family and friends. Her laughter, warmth, and wisdom will forever echo in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Family gatherings were often filled with her stories, quick wit, and the love she so freely shared. As each gathering came to an end, she would lovingly say, " I love you more." Those words became a cherished reminder of the deep bonds she created, bonds that will remain unbroken in the hearts of those who loved her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29 at Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, followed by a prayer service with Rev. Colin Smith. She will be buried with her husband in St. Ann Cemetery in St. Regis Falls. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember Helen following the burial at the St. Regis Falls Adult Center.
Her love and warmth will remain with us always, guiding us through the days ahead. Those wishing to honor her memory, please consider a donation to the St Regis Falls Adult Center or the St. Regis Falls Fire Department.
