Irene C. (Steenberg) "Pat" Pickering, 90, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday, January 8, 2024, at the North Country Rehab & Nursing Center in Massena. She had been a resident there since late August 2023. She quickly made friends with the staff. They loved her. The family wishes to thank the staff at NCRC for the compassionate and caring service provided to Pat and her family- above and beyond.

Born on March 11, 1933, Irene is the daughter of the late George H. and Bertha (Vivlamore) Steenberg. Pat married Wallace Villnave in 1952. He predeceased her in April 1977. She married Alfred Pickering in March 1991; he died in April 2017.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn Smith, Colton, NY (Harvey); her son, Robert Weedsport, NY(Judie); one grandson, Matthew, Lewiston, NY (Sara) and three great granddaughters: Bianca, Mariska and Fiona.

One brother, Kenneth Steenberg, predeceased her in 1982; one sister-in-law, Beverly Wilson, predeceased her in 2022. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pat worked at St. Lawrence Central School for over 25 years. She worked in the cafeteria and in the Custodial Department. She loved her jobs and took great pride in accomplishing her assigned tasks. Pat loved helping people and was always a team player. She was also an active member of the Lawrenceville Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary for 45 years.

In July 2017 she moved from her home in Lawrenceville to LBSH in Brasher Falls. She loved this community and made many friends. She loved playing Bingo, cards, and meeting her friends for lunch and fun activities.

Pat loved baking and cooking. Her donuts were particularly a favorite among many families and friends. She enjoyed gardening and had a love for animals.

Friends are invited to visitation at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop on Monday, January 15th from 10 am until noon. Pat's service will be at 12 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Lee Sweeney and Pastor Aaron Reardon co-officiating. Following the service, the Lawrenceville Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary will be providing a luncheon at the Lawrenceville Baptist Chapel, across from the fire station. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in North Lawrence in the spring.
