Winthrop – Ivan L. Hartson, 62, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 04, 2014, surrounded by the love of his family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Ivan was born on November 20, 1951 in Potsdam, son of the late Carlton t. and Elizabeth A. (Brothers) Hartson. He graduated from Parishville-Hopkinton Central School and on July 18, 1970, he married Pauline J. Randall at the West Stockholm United Methodist Church. They shared 44 years of mutual love and devotion. He entered the U. S. Army on February 1, 1971, serving during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he worked for several employers before going to work at ALCOA in Massena, working in the smelting unit. He enjoyed the outdoors, found peace in fishing and took great pride in his grandchildren. Ivan is survived by his wife, Pauline, three children; Bryan and Christine Hartson, Tammi Thompson and Jeffrey Hartson, all of Winthrop, one brother; Ted and Cathlene Hartson of Louisville, one sister, Carla and Gary Seaver of Winthrop, nine grandchildren, Brianna Hartson, Myles Peterson. Marli Thompson, Jonathan Buffham, Randy Hartson, Kaylee Hartson, Karlee Hartson, Harlee Hartson, and Sophia Hartson; and one great grandchild. One brother, Roger Hartson, predeceased him on June 30, 2011. Following Ivan's wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services. There will be a open house at his home Wednesday, November 5th.
