Winthrop - John A. Cayea, departed this world on April 14, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on January 30, 1951, in Plattsburgh, NY, John is the son of the late Harlan and June (VanAdder) Cayea. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central and served in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1975. He married Cynthia A. Snyder on June 24, 1985 in Hopewell Junction, NY, shared a loving union for over 40 years. He was a Lock Dam Operator at the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation for 30 years.
John was a avid hunter, bow fisherman, golfer, bowler and softball player. In his early years after his military service, he participated in the sport of boxing. He enjoyed watching sports, especially his children and grandchildren. The Dallas Cowboys were his favorite football team. He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls.
John is survived by his wife, Cynthia, his children, Sara Marie and William Owen of Florida, Brandon and Chrissy Cayea of Brasher Falls, Keith Cayea dn Emily Page of Massena, Desiree Cayea and Bernard Trombley of Westville and Amber Cayea of Massena, his grandchildren, Liam Levi, Trenton, Harlan, Kevin Carter, Asher, Thomas, Chloe, Lilly, Eva, and Chance, his siblings, Diane and E Ryan, Connie and Mickey MacEnro, Dawn Arquiett, Linda and Jack Williams, Jackie Cayea And Dan Ageans, and Robin and Steve Sheffield, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a nephew Shawn Cayea, a granddaughter, Casiya Liefred, a brother Sonny Cayea, and a brother-in-law, Colin Arquiett.
His family will honor his life with a Celebration Gathering at the American Legion Post #514 in Winthrop on May 7th at 3 pm. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where memories can be shared online at www.hammillfh.com.
