Our father and grandfather, John Henry Chapman passed away in the late
hours of November 19, 2025 at the Alice Center in Malone, NY. He was
born January 21, 1939 and is predeceased by his parents William and Laura
Chapman. He was the fifth of ten children and is survived by George
Chapman, Ethel Chesbrough and Vivian Muzzie. He was predeceased by
siblings Edward Chapman, Erwin Chapman, Flora King, Nettie Wood,
Helen Yaddow and Willis Chapman. He was predeceased by his loving wife
Lois Carol Arquette whom he married in June of 1958 and who passed away
in June of 1992. He is survived by his five sons, Randy Chapman of
Capistrano Beach, CA; Richard Chapman and wife Kathleen of Dickinson
Center, NY; Ronald Chapman and wife Lillian of Pinellas Park, FL; Gary
Chapman and wife Heidi of Fowler, NY; and Kevin Chapman and wife Sheri
of Venice, FL. John is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 23 great-
grandchildren. He was predeceased by one beloved grandson Shane.
John enlisted in the Navy in 1956 and served onboard a refueling tanker,
traveling around the globe to many international ports of call. In the early
years he worked on the Niagara Falls Restoration Project and the
Cannonsville/Rockrift Water Reservoir Project for NYC. He worked for
many years as a heavy-equipment operator for Green Island Construction
Company working on major road construction projects throughout the state
of NY. After retirement he worked part-time for Danko Construction.
John was a dedicated, hard-working man who enjoyed his children and
grandchildren. He had many friends, loved scratch off tickets, traveled
extensively all over the state of NY, spent many winter seasons going to
California and Florida, and visited many other parts of the country.
John will be deeply missed. Together with his beloved wife Lois, he filled
the lives of their five boys with cherished memories that will live on forever.
The Chapman family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the
compassionate staff of the Alice Center for working closely with us to
provide John the very best of care, comfort, and dignity during his final
months.
A burial service for immediate family will be held in the spring.
