John A. Wever, 87, passed away on January 17, 2024, in Plattsburgh, NY. John is survived by his son, John J. Wever; daughter, Julie R. Wever; son-in-law Kevin O'Neill; daughter-in-law, Erin Wever; and grandson, Edward O'Neill.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Julia R. Wever
John was born October 16, 1936 to parents John F. Wever and Ruth H. Wever.
A devoted and loving Father and Husband, John would bring a quiet calm to those around him.
John was a Math teacher at the St. Regis Falls Central School District beginning in 1960, and retired after 31 years. Through his belief in his students and his tireless efforts, he taught mathematics to several generations of students in the community and inspired many of his students to go into mathematics, science, and related fields.
Photography was one of his life long interests and he built a dark room in a small room in his home where he would develop and make prints of family and nature photos.
He maintained a hand-operated printing press to print the church bulletins for the United Methodist church in St. Regis Falls. He was involved in helping Judy Wever edit and publish town historical newsletters and send them out to members of the community and people from all areas that were interested in the history of St. Regis Falls.
John liked to fish, sometimes getting out at 3:00 AM to go pike fishing with long-time friend and co-worker Adam Samelski.
He enjoyed gardening and often could be found tending his tomato plants and other vegetables over the course of the summer months.
John very much loved music. Whether it was singing in various church choirs or playing his French horn in the community band, he brought life to the music and joy to our ears throughout his life.
John could always be depended on for a kind word or a funny saying to bring a smile to everyone he met. He was a genuinely kind person who will be dearly missed.
Memorial donations can be made in John's name to the St. Regis Falls Volunteer Fire Dept. and to the United Methodist Church in Potsdam, NY.
Graveside prayers will be held on Friday, May 31st at 11 am at Forest Cemetery in St. Regis Falls. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1st at 11 am at the Potsdam United Methodist Church followed by a luncheon for family and friends.
