Kerry Dunbar

April 15, 1963 — July 4, 2025

Winthrop - Kerry R. Dunbar, 62, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, at Rochester Regional – Canton Potsdam Hospital surrounded by family and friends.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop where visitation will be held Monday July 14, from 4 – 6pm. His family will have a Celebration of his life in October, date and time TBD.

Born on April 15, 1963, in Potsdam, to the late Orville and Alberta (Page) Dunbar. He graduated from St. Lawernce Central High School in 1982. He also served in the ARMY National Guard.

Kerry was a dedicated laborer and home health aide, serving the community through his work with MILC in Massena, and RIL based out of Utica. His caring nature extended beyond his profession; he was a true nurturer who always put his family first. He also worked for CCM hockey equipment, ACCO distributing school supplies and CNS grocery distribution.

Kerry married Kimberley Johnson on October 10, 2015. The two of them shared a one-of-a-kind union as true lovers and friends. Their personalities complimented each other well and this was clear as it was rare to see one without the other.

An honest jokester with a flair for fun, Kerry brought joy to any gathering. He was known for his spirited dancing, singing, and the ability to light up the room, always ready to dress up in costume for any celebration—whether as the Grinch, a leprechaun, or Santa Claus with his signature six-pack. For his next dress – up performance, Kerry was planning to be Spiderman for his niece, Hope’s graduation party. He always loved a good party and created an atmosphere of merriment wherever he went.

He enjoyed countless adventures and activities with his grandchildren, especially rides on his side X side, hunting, cutting wood, or just simply spending time together. Kerry was also a collector at heart, with a passion for gathering treasures that reflected his life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kim; his children Jay LaShombe and his wife Chapin of VT, Shawna Dunbar of RI, Regan Dunbar and his wife Brittany of Brasher Falls, Haleigh Dunbar and her fiancé Dalton Okeefe of Massena, Todd Deshane and his wife Patty of Fort Hunter, and Bridgette Pike and her husband Dan of Brasher Falls; 10 grandchildren, Elliona, Everly Marie, Everly Davis, Amyna, Laynie, Chelsea, Phoebe, Toby, RJ, and Audric; two sisters, Joyce McDonald and her husband Mike, and Debbie Delorme; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Kerry was pre-deceased by his brother Kevin Dunbar.

Flowers are respectfully declined. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions in Kerry’s honor can be made to the Tri-Town Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 238 Brasher Falls, NY 13613.
