Margaret A Tyo

Norfolk - It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Margaret A. Tyo, affectionately known as Peg, 72, who departed this world on June 20, 2026, with her family at her side.

Born on January 17, 1954, in Plattsburgh, to the late Norman and Marie (Burgoyne) Cook, Peg grew to embody the values of kindness, creativity, and resilience.

Peg was a graduate from Brasher Falls Central School and with artistic spirit, she pursued her passion for the arts at SUNY Potsdam. Over the years, she enjoyed various roles at St. Lawrence Central High School, including cafeteria staff and the custodial department.

She married Dennis Phillips, with whom she shared two beloved children, son Travis, and daughter Tina. Peg found love again when she married John "Jack" Tyo on October 6, 2001. Their bond was filled with cherished memories, including trips to Niagara Falls, a place they both loved. Jack passed away in September 2024.

Peg was a devout Catholic and member of Sacred Heart Church in Massena. She found solace in gardening and enjoyed traveling. She also liked the occasional game of chance. Above all, she was a devoted grandmother, taking pride in her grandchildren and great-granddaughter, who brought light and joy into her life.

She is survived by her son, Travis Phillips, and his wife Kristen of Medina, her daughter, Tina Phillips, and her partner Kelly Kim of Waddington; four grandchildren, Jaxon and Evelyn Phillips, Skyler and Brianna Cree, Nathan Cree, and his fiancé Davrin, her great granddaughter, Aspen, and another great granddaughter on the way. Also, her chosen grandchildren, Aidan, Danny, and Avery Doran of Wilton, Connecticut.

Peg is also survived by her siblings, Sharon and Jerry Locy of Norfolk, Joann "Evie" and Lance Gibson of Phoenix, Susan, and Tracy Phillips of Brasher; sister - in - law, Peggy Cook of Winthrop, and several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Debra McGregor, and two brothers, Joseph Cook and Richard Cook predeceased her.

Peg's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated nurses, CNAs, and staff at the Massena Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their compassionate care and unwavering respect for her. Your kindness made a profound difference in her life.

A graveside service to honor Peg's life will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Massena on Monday July 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Peg's honor can be made to the Massena Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Massena, NY.

As we gather to celebrate her life, let us remember Peg for the days she lived, the love she shared, the laughter she inspired and the artistic spirit that she embodied.
