Marie A. Rutherford, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on October 1, 2025, at North Country Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in Massena. Born on February 5, 1942, in the charming town of Saranac Lake, she is the daughter of the late Lester and Joyce (Trushaw) Jenkins. Marie touched the lives of many during her 83 years on this earth, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. She married Earl Rutherford on September 6, 1986, in Walton, NY. They shared a 16-year union until his death on April 18, 2003.
Marie dedicated her life to her family. She took pleasure in knitting, crocheting and crafting. Her compassion and dedication were evident in everything she did. Her warmth and nurturing spirit were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her five children, Laurie Richards (Randy)of Stuyvesant, David LaRock (Teresa) of Philmont, Terri Sirles (Gary )of North Lawrence, Shelly Judware (Chad)of Winthrop, and John LaRock (Angel)of Helena, and daughter-in-law Rebecca LaRock who will forever cherish the countless memories of their time with her. Marie was a proud matriarch of her family and took immense joy in being a grandmother, carrying on her legacy through her 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a great great grandson. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Thomas LaRock, Jr., and her siblings, Donald L. Jenkins, Teresa Wilson, Mabel H. Richards and Robert Foley.
A visitation will be held at Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls on October 6, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1: 00 pm, where we will gather to share memories in tribute to her spirit. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place at Sand Hill Cemetery, where we will lay her to rest with her husband Earl Rutherford.
Marie will be buried at County Route 5, Dickinson Center, NY, a place where she will always remain in the hearts of her loved ones. As we gather to honor her memory, let us remember the joy she brought into our lives and celebrate the incredible journey she shared with us all.
