Some people leave an impression on your life. Our mom, Martine M. DeCarr, left a light.

Born on May 22, 1958, in Metz, France, Mom came to the United States as a teenager and began a journey that would eventually lead her to the place she would call home for nearly 50 years-upstate New York.

She didn't simply settle there; she became part of the community. It became her home, and the people she met along the way became her friends and, in many ways, her extended family. She spent nearly 30 years working at the St. Regis Falls School District, where she touched the lives of generations of students, families, and coworkers.

But Mom's greatest gift was the way she made people feel.

She had a warmth that was impossible to miss. She could walk into a room and somehow make it brighter. She made friends wherever she went, often without even trying. Her beautiful spirit, her kindness, her laughter, and the genuine love she showed people stayed with them. She had a way of making people feel like they mattered.

Life was not always easy, and Mom experienced many changes throughout her life. Yet somehow, through it all, she remained loving. She continued to give her heart to the people around her. That was simply who she was.

And for all the people she loved, no one meant more to her than her family.

Her greatest happiness came from being with the people she loved. She treasured her family, and especially her grandchildren. The joy they brought her was something truly special. She loved watching them grow, spending time with them, and being their grandmother. Those memories will be treasured forever.

Mom leaves behind her son, Christopher Stricker; daughter Karisha and her husband Sahil Ahuja; her beloved grandchildren, Malaika and Nevaan Ahuja; and her brothers, Phil and Joel Huckins, and Noel Johnson, along with the many friends and members of her community who loved her.

Her family will receive friends at Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls on Friday, September 25th, from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to St. Regis Falls CSD, 92 N. Main Street, St. Regis Falls, NY 12980, to be used for a scholarship and memorial in her name

It is difficult to put into words what it means to lose someone who gave so much love to others. There will be an emptiness where Mom's presence once was-a missing voice, a missing laugh, and a missing light in the room. But there will also be so much that remains. She remains in the memories of the people she loved. In the friendships she made. In the lives she touched during nearly 30 years at the school. In the stories her family will tell. And most of all, in the love she gave us so freely.

Mom spent her life making other people's lives a little warmer, a little happier, and a little brighter.

She was loved beyond words, she gave love without limits, and she will be missed for the rest of our lives.

She was predeceased by her mother Marie-Odette Huckins, her sister Patricia Huckins, and her husband Verick "Mickey" DeCarr.
