Maurice G. "Mose" Richards, 90, of St. Regis Falls passed away unexpectedly at Canton-Potsdam Hospital on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, with his loving family by his side.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls, NY on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 11AM. Interment to follow at St. Ann's Cemetery and a luncheon to follow the burial at St. Ann's Parish Hall.

Maurice was born at home in St. Regis Falls, NY on October 20, 1932, son of Mayfred and Maurice G. Richards Sr. He attended St. Regis Falls Central School and graduated in June of 1952.He joined the US Army Reserve in Malone, NY while in high school. He entered the US Army in January 1953 and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal from the US Army in December 1954 and received several medals of honor. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Post #322 in St. Regis Falls for over 25 years.

He married Janet Susice Richards on November 30,1957 at St. Peter's Church in Santa Clara, NY.

Maurice worked in the pot rooms at ALCOA in Massena and on the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Later, he went to work at the St. Lawrence Seaway's Snell Locks and retired as a Lock and Dam Foreman in 1985. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are his greatest joy and he has had a busy and joyful retirement.

His wife retired a few years after him, so traveling has been high on their list. Since retiring, they have enjoyed many family trips to Hawaii, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Las Vegas. Some trips were made with his Army friends, neighbors, relatives, and children with their families.

Besides a traveler, Mose was an outdoorsman, often enjoying hunting, fishing, and gardening. He even bagged a 6-point buck last fall, at the age of 90!

Besides his parents, Maurice was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne Tharrett Richards, his sisters, Evelyn Brown, and Marion Muraca. Surviving is his loving wife of 65 years; Janet, his children; Michael (Laura) Richards, Valerie (Charles) Bishop, all of St. Regis Falls, his grandchildren; Kristin (Corey) Crawford, Nikki (John) Farnsworth, Lindsey (Lee) Kelly, Charles M. Bishop, Michael (Crystal) Richards, Sara (Darwin) Kelley, Margaret Tharrett Rogers, great grandchildren; Chase Crawford, Zachary and Lukas Farnsworth, Baby Kelly, Kade and Eliana Richards, and Addison Kelley, and a sister, Dorothy Perry.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maurice G. Richards honor to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org). Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls, where memories and words of comfort can be shared with the family at www.hammillfh.com
