North Lawrence - Mia Marlene Hourihan peacefully passed away on June 17, 2024, at
her home in North Lawrence surrounded by her family, at the age of 57. Mia was born
on November 14, 1966, in Potsdam, daughter of the late Newell and Virginia (Edwards)
Sheldon.
On July 10, 2010, she married Larrie Patrick Hourihan at their home on the river in
Nicholville. Mia retired as the Coordinator of Document Scanning at St. Lawrence
Health in Potsdam. In this role, she demonstrated unwavering commitment,
professionalism, and empathy, making a profound impact on all those she encountered.
Mia made her house a home, filled with love and devotion to her family. Mia lived her
life the best way she knew and never took it for granted. She will always be remembered
for her outgoing personality and infectious laugh. Mia saw good in everyone she met and
lived by the credo ... once a friend always a friend. She was persistent in assuring that
everyone around her had a good time when out and about and relished being one of
Dukes' "Valley Girls" as well as one of the original F-tards.
Mia's greatest achievement in life was her "Peanut" and all the joy and pain that comes
with raising a child on her own. After Brooke and Justin gave her our girls.... Mia's life was
centered around her beloved grandchildren...simple things like a heart emoji from the
girls in the morning made the whole day worth it for Mia.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Larrie Patrick Hourihan, her daughter Brooke
and Justin Sweet, and her cherished grandchildren, Zaylee, Kylee, and Lillee Sweet.
Mia's siblings Melody and Patrick Tharrett, Alan Sheldon, Shelly Sheldon, Laura and
David Bisnett, Scott Sheldon and Ray Remillard, and Newell Sheldon Jr., and her nieces
and nephews, also mourn her loss and honor her memory. Besides her parents, Mia was
predeceased by her sisters, Sharon Jenkinson and Connie Jean Sheldon.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Hammill Funeral Home in
Winthrop on Friday, June 21st from 10 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 4 pm. Funeral
prayers will follow at 4 pm.
Mia will forever be cherished, remembered, and loved by those whose lives she touched.
May she rest in peace, knowing that her legacy of love and compassion lives on in the
