Winthrop – Ray D. Thompson, 73, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 at his home. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Ray was born on January 14, 1939, son of the late Lloyd and Marjorie (Smith) Thompson. He served his country during the Korean War in the U. S. Marine Corps. On December 14, 1963, he married Ellen M. Peacock at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam. Ellen passed away January 29, 2006. Ray worked at Reynolds’s Metals in Massena for 39 years, retiring in 2001 as a crane operator. From 1974 to 1979, he and his wife operated the Coffee Shop in Brasher Falls. He was a member of Sylvan Falls Hunting Club. He is survived by four children; Marijo Thompson of Brasher Falls, Kevin and Janet Thompson of Brasher Falls, Lynne and John Weir of Sterling, MA, and Dale and Kristy Thompson of Winthrop, one brother and sister in law, Carl and Doris Thompson of Winthrop and 6 grandchildren, Jenna and Jaden Thompson, Brianna and Logan Weir, Kyle Simon and Trenton Thompson. Ray was also predeceased by one son, Allen Clary. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where Ray’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday at 11am with Rev. Lee Sweeney officiating. Burial will follow in Southville Cemetery in the Town of Stockholm.
