North Lawrence - Richard D. Burnett, 86, of North Lawrence, passed away peacefully at the Massena Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on April 25, 2026.
He was born on March 26, 1940, in Helena at home, son of the late Raymond and Dorothy (Jock) Burnett. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central School in 1958. He started working for P & C Foods Potsdam in 1961. Before he retired, he was the Front-End Manager at the Massena store where he was known for his kindness, dedication, and service to others. He retired in 2001 after 40 years.
He married Marlene E. Newton on August 28, 1965, at the Brasher Falls United Methodist Church. They shared a blessed union until her passing on November 26, 2024.
Richard is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Tari Burnett of North Lawrence, and grandson, Nathaniel Burnett of North Lawrence and his significant other, Emma Thomas. He also leaves behind his cherished sisters, Barbara Burnett of North Lawrence and Carolyn Jones (Gary) of Saratoga Springs, and his brother, Donald (Sandra) of North Lawrence, along with a brother-in-law, Robert Newton of Norwood, as well as his great grand pup, Mally Mae.
Besides his wife and parents, Richard was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Ella Jane Burnett and sister-in-law, Gloria Newton.
Richard was a dedicated past member of the North Lawrence and Nicholville United Methodist Churches, North Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department, Maple Grove Cemetery and Township of Lawrence Board member.
When he wasn't working, volunteering, traveling, or spending time with family and friends, you could find him in his beloved garden.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Hammill Funeral Home. Funeral services immediately following at 1:00 PM. Richard will be laid to rest next to his wife at Maple Grove Cemetery in North Lawrence.
