Robert W. Mott

November 19, 1919 — January 21, 2011

Massena- Robert "Wellie" Mott, 91, passed away Friday, January 21, 2011, at his home. He was born on November 14, 1919 in Massena, son of the late Robert Joseph and Sarah "Sadie" Mason Mott. He graduated from Massena High School and the New York Technical Institute. Mr. Mott worked at ALCOA before entering the U. S. Navy in 1941. In 1944, he married Hazel Gallinger, who predeceased him. He served during WW II in the South Pacific on several carriers and the destroyer, USS Vincennes, receiving his honorable discharge in 1946. He married Florence Bradley on February 4, 1951 in New York City. She predeceased him on November 16, 1999. Mr. Mott was a refrigeration technician and electrician owning his own company in New York City, prior to that he also worked in Syracuse. He retired in 1980 and moved to Brasher Falls. He loved his Tupper Lake home which provided his extended family the benefit of enjoying his beloved Adirondacks. He was a great sportsman, his favorites being hunting and fishing in the Adirondacks. He was a member of the VFW Post #1143, the AmVets Post #4 and the American Legion Post # 79, all in Massena and a member of the IBEW#3,New York City. He is survived by four children, Faye and David Jones of Brasher Falls, Roberta and Anthony Paccione of Brasher Falls, Robert M. Mott of Los Angeles, CA and Ruth Mott of Burke, VA; four grandchildren, Darby Jones of Arvada, CO, Adam Paccione of Burlington, VT, Eric Paccione of Massena and Kaitlyn Mott of Burke, VA; his brothers and sisters, Beulah Pierce of Avon, Donald Mott of Canastota, Faye Yakeley of Latham, Reginald and Bertha Mott of Massena, Barbara and Fred Anable of CT, Betty and Jesse Billingsley of Concord, CA, Gary and Ellen Mott of Gouverneur and Lawrence Mott of Oneida; many generations of nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Rowena Allen and Sharleen Bruse, predeceased him. Calling hours will be Thursday, Feb. 17 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Feb. 18 at 10 am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
