Robert J Phippen

Hopkinton- Mr. Robert J. Phippen, 72, passed away peacefully, Thursday March 3, 2016 in the comfort of his home surrounded by family. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Robert was born in Stockholm on September 6, 1943 to Harold F. and Anita (Hubschmitt) Phippen. He was raised and educated locally attending the Stockholm one room school house and graduating from Parishville-Hopkinton High School. After high school, Robert drove milk truck for Mr. Wilson, and worked on the Eakins Farms. He then worked many years as a Straightener 3 at ALCOA, the position from which he retired and where he earned the friendly nick name, ‘Louie the Lip’. On August 9, 1975 he married Cheryll Flint in Brushton. Sharing in a blessed union of 40 years they raised their family and home together; built upon hard work, faith, and love. Robert was gifted with a welcoming and friendly spirit. Whether he was lending a helping hand, offering necessary transportation, or sharing in good conversation, he was one who provided not only a service, but a friendship and support for others. His heart and home were always open to anyone that was in need of a place to stay or a home cooked meal. Robert was his grandchildren’s biggest fan as he always looked forward to attending all of their sporting events. He had a love for nature and the outdoors, and fully enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of The Trappers Association, NRA, Sylvan Falls Club and a member of the Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Fire Department. Robert is survived by his wife, Cheryll, his children: Robert and Dawn Phippen Jr. of Potsdam, Sherry and Steven Gesualdi of MO., Mary Charleston of Winthrop, Benjamin and Melody Phippen of Winthrop, Timothy and Kristie Phippen of Winthrop, and Deborah and Bradley Foster of Nicholville, his father, Harold F. Phippen of Canton, mother-in-law, Joyce Flint of Winthrop, 27 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren with 1 great-grandson on the way. Survivors also include his siblings: Joann and Dale Sevey of Winthrop, Harold C. and Barbara Phippen of Potsdam, Phillip and Marcia Phippen of Potsdam, Peter and Julie Phippen of Eau Claire, WI., and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Robert was predeceased by his son, Christopher; mother Anita, and father-in-law Clyde Flint. Family and friends may call Monday from 2- 4 and 6 -8 pm. Robert’s Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will be Tuesday at 9:00am at the First Congregational Church of Hopkinton with Pastor Robert Blum. Burial will take place in the spring at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Parishville.
