Funeral services for Sarah D. Gilmour, 94, of Ogdensburg will be held Saturday, July
19th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Stone Church with Reverend David A. Hart
officiating.
Sarah passed away while staying with her daughter in North Carolina on Tuesday June
24th, 2025.
She was born on June 28th, 1930, the daughter of the late William and Dorothy
(Witherhead) Davies.
Surviving is her daughter Anne Enoch; sons Russell Gilmour (Terri) and Lee Gilmour; 9
Grandchildren: Deborah Bertrand, Nathaniel Enoch, Paul Enoch, Brent Gilmour, Jacob
Gilmour, Kerri TenEyck, Roy Gilmour, Jarret Gilmour, and Marcus Gilmour; 14 Great-
Grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; 3 Sisters: Margret Wylie, Mary (Rick)
Petrie, and Kathy (Dave) Rogers; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband George, who passed away March 5 th 2015 after 66
years of marriage; daughter Nancy; sister Janet White; son-in-law Edward Enoch; and
brothers-in-law William White and Jack Wylie.
Sarah graduated as valedictorian from Morristown Central School and then from Miss
Wallace’s Business School. She began her career as a secretary 1 st at Briggs Wholesale
Grocery Supply. She later worked for the Presbyterian Church in Ogdensburg. Sarah
continued her education at Mater Dei College, earning a degree in elementary
education, and completed her Master’s in Education at SUNY Potsdam.
She taught elementary grades at Hammond Central School and at Madrid-Waddington.
Sarah eventually became an instructor in the Business Program at Mater Dei College.
This was her dream job until her declining vision eventually would not allow her to
continue, However, she did not let that slow her down. Sarah remained active in many
activities including dances, Garden Club meetings, Bible study groups, and church
activities.
Sarah was known for her deep devotion to the Presbyterian Stone Church, where she
had been a faithful member for over 80 years. She held numerous titles and
responsibilities. Sarah had attended the church’s 200th Anniversary Festival, where she
even spent part of the day dancing in the yard with the band.
Sarah’s faith journey was the cornerstone of the Presbyterian Stone Church. Her
enduring devotion, joyful spirit, and generous heart left an indelible mark on her family,
her students, and her church community. She will be deeply missed and forever
remembered.
