Brasher Falls - It is with both heavy hearts and fond memories that we celebrate the life of Shirley Y. Michaud, 88, who peacefully passed away on January 22, 2026, with her family by her side.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Shirley was born on May 30, 1937, in Union, S.C., to the late James H. and Bonnie (Lovelace) Gillian and graduated from Union High School in South Carolina. For a brief time, Shirley proudly served her country in the US Army and was honorably discharged on September 28, 1956.
At one time she was married to Gerald Michaud and he predeceased her.
A life spent dedicated to her family, her work, and her community, Shirley established herself as a cherished figure in the culinary landscape of Massena.
Shirley was a force of nature who approached life with enthusiasm. She truly enjoyed her long and illustrious career in food service, where she proudly served the community for over 27 years at both the Ames Snack Bar and P-n-C Deli, followed by 30 years as the esteemed "Queen of Dairy Queen." Her specialty cakes provided joy and sweetness to countless customers and celebrations. Shirley's unwavering dedication to her craft was a testament to her work ethic and her genuine demeanor left a lasting impact on her co-workers, making her a beloved member of the Dairy Queen Family.
In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling and golf, finding joy in both sports and of course forging connections with others along the way.
Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Donna (Ronald) Page of Winthrop and Deanna (Randy) Page of Norwood; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Phil) Soulia, Benjamin (Samantha) Page, Joshua Cockayne, Justin Cockayne, Rebecca Collins, Angela (Zach) Brown, and Corey Page; ten great grandchildren, Alonnah, Wyatt, Brielle, Isaac, Memphis, Hayleigh, Avery, North, Eleanor, and Remington; a brother, James "J.H." Henry Jr., a sister, Deloris Ann, both of South Carolina, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Always close to Shirley's heart is the memory of those who predeceased her. Her daughter Tina Cockayne passed on September 25, 2022, and her siblings, Barbara, Brenda, Alvin, and Calvin.
In a remarkable gesture of generosity, Shirley chose to donate her body to advance the science of medicine, touching lives even in her passing.
A graveside service at Winthrop Cemetery will be held at a later date and details will be shared when available.
She leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and resilience that will be forever treasured by her family and friends. Rest in Peace Shirley.
