Helena - It is with our heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Sue E. Hewlett, who left us on November 22, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on March 1, 1955, in Massena, she is the daughter of the late Harold E. and Willametta Elizabeth (Baxter) Hewlett, Sue grew up in a loving family and built a life she was passionate about in Helena. She graduated from St. Lawrence Central School in 1973.
Sue was a dedicated employee at Reynolds Metals in Massena, where she worked in the cast house and was known for her hard work and commitment to her job. She was proud of her role in the aluminum industry and made many friends along the way. She was dedicated to the preservation of the Carville Cemetery, in Helena, where she served in many positions as President, Secretary, Treasurer, Trustee and Caretaker. She could be seen watering plants for the many souls buried there, just because she cared about the memories.
Sue is survived by her loving siblings:, Marilyn Gale of Moira, Carolyn Kendall of Georgia, Norman and Nancy Hewlett of Massena, Patricia and Eugene Bean of Ogdensburg, Jacqueline Dishaw of Helena, Charles and Bonnie Hewlett of Massena, Linda Taylor of Winthrop, and Randy Hewlett of Florida, and many nieces and nephews. Together, they share cherished memories of a sister and aunt whose spirit will forever reside in their hearts. Besides her parents, Sue is predeceased by her brother Larry and his wife Marlene Hewlett, brother in laws, Tom Kendall, Bob Gale, Daniel Dishaw and James Taylor and a sister in law Joyce Hewlett.
In honor of Sue's life, there will be a visitation held at Hammill Funeral Home on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to come and celebrate Sue's life and share their memories.
