It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma M. Savage, aged 72, who passed away unexpectedly on May 15, 2026. Born on May 5, 1954, in Potsdam, NY, Thelma is the daughter of the late Donald P. and Allison G. (Castle) Deon. She married Martin M. Savage on July 16, 2000, who predeceased her on August 26, 2011. She worked at Tru-Stitch in Bombay, then Cornell's Dry Cleaners in Massena and then she was dedicated to caring for others, serving as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone, NY, where her compassionate spirit and gentle nature left an indelible mark on both her colleagues and the residents she tended to. After she retired, she took great pleasure in spending time with her family, sharing weekend meals and loved to play cards.
Thelma had numerous health problems, with her heart and cancer and was lovingly supported throughout her life by her close family and cherished friends. She is survived by her son, Michael Savage and his companion, Susan Dora, and her daughter, Rebecca Coble. Her legacy also includes her grandchildren-Austin and Morgan Carter, Carter Boyea, Hunter Boyea, Mariah Leigh, Tianna Leigh, Rhianna Leigh, and Emmalie Dora-along with her great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Kaeden Carter. Thelma's siblings, Clyde Deon, Melvin "Frenchie" Deon, Ann Deon, Steven "Benny" and Milly Deon, Mary Rafter, Sally and Roy "Dale" Savage, and Freda and Peter Merrill, all hold her memory dear. Besides her husband and parent, Thelma was predeceased by a brother Alvin "Charlie" Deon
A graveside service will be held in her honor at Carville Cemetery on June 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where memories can be shared online at www.hammillfh.com.
Flowers are gratefully declined but if you should desire to, please consider a donation in her memory to Center for Cancer Care at RRH, 50 Leroy Street, Potsdam, NY 13676, Brushton-Moira Adult Center, 1328 Washington Street, Brushton, NY 12916 or the charity of your choice.
