Brushton - Virginia Catherine (Susice) Durant, passed away peacefully at the Alice Center in Malone on June 21, 2024. Prior to her stay she was a resident of Brushton.
Virginia, known as Pee Wee to her family and Ginny to her friends, was born in Santo Clara on September 3, 1932, to Ernest C. Susice and Catherine (Cramer) Susice. Both parents and a sister, Bernadette (Susice) Laramy predeceased her.
Ginny attended schools in Santa Clara and St. Regis Falls. Later in life, she earned her GED and then graduated from Massena School of Business.
She married William J. Brown on August 8, 1953, and they had two children Richard E. Brown (Suzanne) and Diane M. Quintal (James). William died on March 27, 1973.
On October 20, 1973, she married Glenford Niles. He died October 23, 1979.
She then married Elmer Durant, Sr. on June 5, 1982. He passed on June 21, 2002.
She is survived by several stepchildren, her grandchildren, Nathan Raymond and his wife, Michelle of Knightdale, NC, Richard M. Brown of Saranac Lake, Drew W. Brown and Melanie, also of Saranac Lake, Nicole Quintal Webster and her husband Gabriel of Weatherford, TX, 8 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Fond memories will be forever in the hearts of her family.
She loved fishing, camping and crocheting. She exercised everyday and enjoyed walking. She was an avid bowler and belonged to the Wednesday Night League at the Crossroads Lanes in Moira for many years.
Ginny was a member of the American Legion Post #939 in Brushton for over 50 years and a life member of most of those years. She was a regular communicant of St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls and St. Peter's Church in Santa Clara.
There will be private viewing for her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 27th at 11 am at St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls. A burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls, where memories can be shared with her family at www.hammillfh.com.
