William Scharf

North Lawrence - Mr. William A. "Wid" Scharf, 79, passed away on January 12, 2024, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington with his wife Kathy and family by his side.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, and in keeping with Wid's wishes there will be no services at this time. There will be a Celebration of Life during the summer.

Wid was born in Malone on May 16, 1944, to the late Reuben and Florence (Drake) Scharf. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central, Brasher Falls, in 1963.

On June 27, 1970, he married Kathleen M. Kilcoyne at St. Patrick's Church in Brasher Falls. The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Bernard Christman.

Wid began his working career as an Operating Engineer in Rochester, NY. When he moved back home to North Lawrence, he combined construction with operating a bulk milk hauling business.

Wid is survived by his wife Kathy; children Kristen Scharf-Best and her husband Jeremy of Saratoga, Matthew Scharf and his wife Elisabeth of Southport, NC; grandchildren, Elizabeth Best, Anthony Best, and Cameron English. He is also survived by his sisters Linda Davis, Lockport, NY, Patricia Lundin (Skip), Crossville, TN, Jean Welch (Philip), West Chazy, NY, and Mary Scharf, Malone, NY, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Wid is predeceased by his parents Reuben and Florence Scharf, his brother James Scharf and wife Ginger, and his brother-in-law John Davis.
